While reading the history page over at Greensleeves website,   http://www.greensleeves.net/products/7589 – I was pleased to read that Tony McDermott, the artist / designer behind so many of the classic LP Sleeves from the label, is still working there. The ‘Carnival Of Reggae History’ 12″ sleeve, created by the designer who still works for Greensleeves today, Tony McDermott, became something of a guarantee of quality for the reggae aficionado.

Dub Come Save Me

For some reason the moment I heard “British hip-hop has no soul” a real spike of annoyance went down my “b-boy” spine. Granted we were discussing dub, but — (and this is the important part) – by way of Roots Manuva…. and the fact that the “DeeJay” in question, that was talking to me, waaaas talking about how “fucking amazing” the Dub Version of “Run Come Save Me” actually is. I think, at the time, I really knew all along how bloody decent it was, I mean, come on, in this day and age, for anyone, (let alone a “british” hip-hop artist) to issue a dub version of anything, I mean…. really? And… to be clear, I’m not talking about the latest so-called “dub” remix by [new…

Mr. Perry dubbing Dublin, aliens and more

Posted by: dublinator Posted onFebruary 28, 2006 Comments: 0

Yeah its not the kind of ad they show on the telly in america. Nice bit of Mr Perry “the creator of dub” he he… Dubbing around Dublin, in Stephen’s Green talking to the ducks, in the pub having a swift one. Seems like Guinness got the man to do a bunch of these ads, is it just me or doesn’t seem like an easy job for the copywriter? “Eh… Lee… waddya think about ehhh dem Aliens then Lee?”

Then from Scotland, it’s the Butch Cassidy Sound System and their “butch’s brew” which…

Anchormix Radio

Check out dub creating and version mixing over at Anchormix.com : “…The goal was to pay tribute to two dub heavyweights while using the songs as elements themselves and weaving in the vocal talents of Omnibus MC. In a four-round clash, DJ’s Andren and Scott Allen took turns re-mixing, looping and dubbing each track into a brand new song. Our modern take on dub is to remix the dub tracks on the fly and create a ‘dub soundscape’ that, when mixed with live vocals provides a live element that can never be recreated.”

Lee Scratch Perry Interview

Uncarved.org has a great interview with Lee “Scratch” Perry by Danny Kelly. There’s a brilliant quote where Mr Perry claims ‘dub’ for his own “To be fair and speak the truth, it wasn’t I and Tubby who brought about dub, but I alone! In those days Tubby had a sound system and he wanted dubs for it from me. He’d come to Randy’s studio where I worked at the time and spend days watching me messing about with the controls. As my dubs got famous and people like them, so Tubby try mixing up a few sides of his own.”
