Jahtari | making a riddim with a SID synth and a Korg Monotron Delay

Posted by: dublinator Posted onSeptember 15, 2013 Comments: 2

This is very cool – not easy – but cool and there are many more musicians and producers sharing crucial dub production like this on youtube. Like it? Don’t like it? Too complicated? Let us know in the comments! disrupt (Jahtari) making a riddim with a MIDIBOX SID synth and a modded Korg Monotron Delay (it’s now in a rack, has proper knobs and cool new extras). Posted by: dublinator Posted onAugust 25, 2013 Comments: 0

If you want to understand an important part of Jamaican music culture you need to listen to a lot of 45s. Unfortunately due to the popularity of the format so many were made that never made it to a re-issue or compilation LP or CD. Fortunately for us there are some great collectors out there who write great blogs and create great mixes who are willing to share mixes of their collection with us. By no means a comprehensive list and these blogs will, in turn, lead you to hundreds of more blogs – but just four that we really enjoy and respect. Enjoy – dub.com http://davesjukebox.blogspot.com/ Dave is a passionate collector of…

Gaudi | In between times

Posted by: dublinator Posted onJuly 2, 2013 Comments: 3

Discovered this great album via our old pal Tomas @ voltage music on bandcamp. Here’s an excerpt we like but please be sure to read the entire piece – Great music and great writing. Like original dub music, Gaudi’s music takes the listener between the bass lines, leaving space for the nuance and color in his productions to emerge. He’s decided that while the computer offers endless synth, sample and rhythmic layering possibilities, often you can say more with less. “With all of the plug-ins and effects, the result is a wall of sound,” he explains. “There’s no time for the brain to filter it out. With the dub producers as a reference, I give the same importance to the silence between the notes as the notes…

More upbeat that his trio of EPs, set loose in 2009 and 2010, this one is a more joyful, celebratory collection. “Dedicated to the loving memories of Mirka Gorecka, Alicia Wisdom, Eileen Davies and all those no longer with us who live on in our hearts.” MikuÅ› has also just put out a selection of horn-led dubs on his own netlabel, Terra Incognita Recordings.
