I took this picture of Mikey a few years ago, and got to meet him briefly afterwards. An amazing performer & producer and a brilliant broadcaster, Mikeys influence stems way beyond reggae into many other forms of music. He’ll be missed. Reggae musician Mikey Dread died Saturday, March 15th 2008 at 4:30 pm EST in Connecticut. Michael Campbell better known as Mikey Dread, was a Jamaican singer, producer, and broadcaster. worldmusiccentral.org/article.php/mikey_dread_dies Remembering a Dread who took control www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20080318/ent/ent4.html Mikey Dread: Renaissance man of reggae www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/mikey-dread-renaiss…

Hype Dub

One of our favorite not-strictly dub websites to listen to is the hype machine, a very clever website that looks at other music blogs and links all the mp3s together. Its worth checking out even if the music you think you might find there isn’t your thing, because you might find other sites and blogs worth reading, like the excellent Burning Dervish blog, and their recent post on Jah Lloyd’s Final Judgement LP The Hype Machine search for “dub” And Burning Dervish comments led us to: http://www.dubandreggae.com/ which looks like its well on its way to becoming a great community site for dub and reggae fans.

wikipedia dub problem

The wikipedia entry on dub needs some citations in order to adhere to their standards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dub_music If you have the time and energy please help to edit this entry and make it as worthy as your love of this music is. It would suck to have wikipedia listing dub as about car wheels and not music.

Bruno Natal writes: This is to inform that the trailer for the documentary “Dub Echoes” is on line! (and is looking really good!-dub.com) It’s taking longer than expected to finish the movie (being independent and with no budget makes it harder…), but little by little is coming together. For now, you can watch the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPz6lAa4y-I [youtube wPz6lAa4y-I] Dub Echoes” is a documentary that shows how the jamaican dub influenced the birth much of what we hear today, from electronic music to hip hop.
